April 24, 2019 | News April 2019 | Amendment to the Slovak Labor Code effective as of January 1, 2019

On December 7, 2018, the National Council of the Slovak Republic (the Slovak parliament) approved an amendment to the Labor Code to include a new provision, Section 13(5), effective as of January 1, 2019.

Under the new provision, employers must not impose an obligation on employees to maintain confidentiality regarding the employees’ working conditions, including pay and employment terms. The new provision also stipulates that employees must not be victimized or punished at work for not complying with any such obligation.

Should an employee agree in an employment contract or other agreement to maintain confidentiality regarding his/her working conditions, including pay and employment terms, such a clause will be deemed invalid.
