August 12, 2021 | News August 2021 │ The Supreme Administrative Court starts operating

On August 1, 2021, the new Supreme Administrative Court of the Slovak Republic (the “Court”) commenced its work. The Court has started operating with 16 judges. Pavol Naď, a regional judge from Košice, has become the first President of the Court.

The court sits in Bratislava, and it exercises territorial jurisdiction within the entire territory of the Slovak Republic. The members of the court are its President, panel presiding judges, and panel advisers of the Court.

As far as its jurisdiction is concerned, the Court hears all cases in which someone claims that an illegal decision or measure of an administrative body has violated his/her right. The administrative authorities whose decisions or measures may be challenged by lodging a complaint with the Court are the state, regional and municipal administration bodies.

The Court also decides on the matters involving:

a) the constitutionality and legitimacy of elections to local self-government bodies,

b) the dissolution or suspension of the activities of a political party or political movement,

c) the disciplinary liability of judges, prosecutors and, if the law so provides, also other persons.
