On December 7, 2016, the National Council of the Slovak Republic adopted an amendment to Act No. 305/2013 Coll. on Exercising Powers of Public Authorities in Electronic Form (the e-Government Act).

The amendment, adopted in an accelerated legislative procedure, postpones the deadline for mandatory activation of electronic mailboxes for business entities (legal persons) until June 30, 2017. The deadline for activating electronic mailboxes had been previously extended from the original date of July 1, 2016 to January 1, 2017.

Electronic communication with courts and other public authorities means that official and court documents will be delivered to the business entities concerned (companies and branches) electronically to their electronic mailbox. Such electronic delivery of documents has the same legal effect as delivery of documents in paper form.
