April 09, 2021 | News April 2021 │ European Electronic Communications Code – Implementing Legislation in Slovakia

On February 19, 2021, a draft bill of the new Slovak Electronic Communications Act was published and the formal interdepartmental consultation process commenced. The purpose of the new Act is to transpose Directive (EU) 2018/1972 of 11 December 2018 establishing the European Electronic Communications Code into Slovak law.

The interdepartmental consultation process ended on March 12, 2021 and its result is currently being reviewed by the Slovak Ministry of Transportation and Construction, which prepared the draft bill.

Since the interdepartmental consultation process produced several hundred suggestions to amend the draft bill, we expect that it will take several months until the Ministry discusses the suggestions with other governmental departments and certain other institutions and decides which suggestions to accept. We expect that a new version of the draft bill should be published in the summer months.

It is expected that the new Electronic Communications Act will come into effect on December 1, 2021.
